2020-The year Human spirit triumphs over Pandemic

Time flies…

2020. Another year gone by.

Human spirit is stronger than ever. If 2020 were to be described in a one-liner, “Human spirit triumphs the pandemic” would be perfect one as i write this at the end of the year. Never before in last few decades has the whole of humanity fought a single cause. The people, The government, the media, Scientists, Doctors, the business people. If not for the internet and the information world we live in, I just can’t imagine how we would fight this pandemic. Human spirit lives on. Yeah, Go humans!! Make this world a better place to live for every living being on Earth. For you, are responsible for the happenings. And let not the politics and quest for power of countries belittle human ambitions and the fight in us. We will overcome you, no matter what.

The year 2020 starting on high hopes and newer resolutions for many people almost came to a screeching halt for months at a time. A new update every day of the havoc this pandemic can have and the governmental institutions coming up with measures with whatever little information they have to stop the spread, there were a lot of uncertainties.

Amidst the uncertainties, so so grateful to the frontline workers who in their war rooms and heavy PPEs were out in the scorching summer heat coordinating to safeguard the whole of humanity. It was for humans to see how real superhumans look out in times of watching reel life superheroes.

With the fear still in and the pain not subsiding completely of losing the loved one, humans had to resume their life somewhere. Resuming of the international sport mid-year giving hope back to people and distraction from the panic brought in by the media was much necessary. Sports is such a beautiful thing giving spirit of hope, pushing the possibilities of what a human can do and achieve, keeping the belief alive in people. Eliud Kipchoge doing a marathon in less than 2 hours late last year, Rafael Nadal winning the 20th grand slam equalling federer for highest grand slam titles won in tennis, Lewis Hamilton winning the formula 1 world championship for a record 7th time, Indian Premier League Cricket being organised in Dubai in the bio-bubble environment were some some highlights from the sport in 2020.

We all have heard of people who made fortunes during pandemic making the best of opportunity. We got back to what we really loved to do -pursuing our hobbies, catching up with friends who were long lost in their busy schedules, trying something we had been longing for ages, learnt a thing or two, made time for your dear ones. We saw people doing things they should be actually doing for self than trying to impress people. We saw Nature healing - Dolphins approaching shores, Peacocks flocking cities and Dogs playing on the streets fearlessly again.

Reflecting back on the year 2020, we might have gone a year or two backward or forward. More importantly, everytime i hear about some unfortunate death of somebody or see a funeral I remind myself of how blessed I am to live another day and continue to hold the torch of human spirit wavering, but alive.

Its been an year worth forgetting and one to be remembered for ages to come. Inspite of losing their dearest ones, human spirit standing strong telling the pandemic- “In your face, I live on”.

Good bye 2020. Welcome 2021.
